LCY · Docklands

London City Airport chauffeur transfers.

Forty-five minutes from a Canary Wharf desk to a European departure gate.

London City is the only London airport built around the assumption that its passengers are working. A twenty-minute check-in and a fifteen-minute run from Canary Wharf turn a morning flight into a normal start to the day — provided the ground leg is timed against the Docklands peak rather than a map.

§ 01The case for it

An hour saved at each end.

Fifteen minutes from the Wharf against sixty-five to a hundred for Heathrow.

For short-haul European business routes flown out of the City, Canary Wharf, Shoreditch or Docklands, London City is not a marginal preference — it is an hour saved on the ground and another at check-in. A passenger can leave a Canary Wharf desk forty-five minutes before departure and not be rushing.

The margin only holds if the car is timed properly. The Silvertown and Limehouse approaches are the two places a City Airport run comes apart, and they behave differently in the morning peak than the evening one. Our chauffeurs route on the conditions of the day, which matters more here than at any other London airport.

For long-haul, connections, or anything where the route options are thin, Heathrow is still the right answer and we will say so when you ask.

§ 02What we do

London City, specifically.

Twenty-minute check-in

The shortest in London. A Canary Wharf departure can leave forty-five minutes before the flight.

The Docklands approach

Silvertown and Limehouse behave differently at each peak. Routed on the day, not by default.

Minutes from the Wharf

Fifteen to twenty-five from Canary Wharf, twenty-five to forty from the Square Mile.

Discreet arrivals

A small hall where a meet without a name board is easy — and often preferred.

Private aviation

The jet centre coordinated with your handler, tail number given at booking.

On the same account

One invoice with your Heathrow, Gatwick and city-centre journeys.

§ 04Questions

London City, answered.

How early should the car collect for a London City departure?

+

London City's twenty-minute check-in is the shortest of the London airports, so a Canary Wharf departure can leave forty-five minutes before the flight and a City of London one an hour. That margin is the entire reason the airport exists for business travellers — but it only works if the ground leg is timed properly.

Who should use London City rather than Heathrow?

+

Anyone flying short-haul European business routes out of the City, Canary Wharf, Shoreditch or Docklands. The airport is fifteen to twenty-five minutes from Canary Wharf against sixty-five to a hundred for Heathrow, and the check-in saves another hour. For long-haul or connections, Heathrow remains the answer.

Is the airport approach a problem at peak times?

+

The Silvertown and Limehouse approaches are where a City Airport run goes wrong, and they behave differently in the morning and evening peaks. Our chauffeurs route on the day rather than by default, which is worth more here than at any other London airport.

How much free waiting time is there on arrival?

+

Thirty minutes from wheels down on domestic arrivals and sixty on international. London City clears faster than Heathrow, so the allowance is rarely tested — but it is measured the same way.

Can the chauffeur meet the passenger inside?

+

Yes. Arrivals at London City is small enough that a discreet meet without a name board is straightforward, which suits passengers who would rather not be identified in a business-heavy terminal.

Do you cover the private jet centre?

+

Yes, and it is a common request on this airport in particular. Give us the FBO and the tail number at booking and we coordinate with the handler in advance.
