LGW · North & South

Gatwick chauffeur transfers.

The longest ground leg of the three, and the one most worth timing properly.

Gatwick is the London airport where the journey varies most. The same route can take seventy minutes or a hundred and five depending on the hour and on the M23, so a transfer priced on distance is a transfer priced on a guess. We time the pickup against the day you are travelling and hold the number we quote.

§ 01The ground leg

Distance is not the variable. The hour is.

Seventy minutes or a hundred and five, on the same road, for the same fare.

Everything difficult about a Gatwick transfer happens between the M25 and the terminal. A departure timed on an average will be comfortable four days in five and cause a genuine problem on the fifth, which is not a ratio that works for a flight.

We time the collection against the conditions expected at your hour of travel, and we say so plainly when the pickup time you have asked for is tight. A conversation at booking is cheaper than a rebooked fare.

The terminal is taken from the flight number rather than from the booking form. North and South are separate buildings, and arriving at the wrong one with luggage costs a shuttle ride and the composure of whoever is travelling.

§ 02What we do

Gatwick, specifically.

Terminal confirmed from the flight

North or South taken from the flight number, not from what was typed into the booking.

Timed against the M23

The ground leg that varies most of the three airports. We price the hour, not the distance.

Sixty minutes free

From wheels down on international arrivals, thirty on domestic.

Beyond London

Brighton, the Surrey and Sussex corporate belt, Guildford, and cross-airport connections.

Early departures covered

The 5am runs the rail service does not properly serve, on account like any other journey.

One firm number

Drop-off charge, tolls and congestion charge inside the quoted price.

§ 03Car or train

When the Express is the better answer.

We will tell you when it is. It buys more trust than the fare is worth.

For one person travelling light in the middle of the day, the Gatwick Express is frequently the right call and we will say so. The car wins when there are two or more travelling, when there is real luggage, when the departure is early enough that the rail service has thinned out, or when the passenger needs a door-to-door hour they can work or take calls in.

It also wins on anything that is not a straight run to central London. Brighton, the Surrey and Sussex corporate belt, Guildford and cross-airport connections to Heathrow are all journeys where the train adds legs rather than removing them.

§ 05Questions

Gatwick, answered.

How long does it take to reach Gatwick from central London?

+

Seventy to a hundred and five minutes from the City, sixty-five to a hundred from Knightsbridge, depending on the hour and on the M23. It is the London airport where the ground leg varies most, which is why we time the pickup against the day rather than applying a standard allowance.

North or South terminal — does it change the journey?

+

Slightly. They are separate buildings with their own approaches, and getting it wrong costs a shuttle ride with luggage. We confirm the terminal from the flight number at booking rather than relying on it being stated correctly.

Is a chauffeur to Gatwick worth it over the Express?

+

For one person travelling light, often not. For two or more, for anyone with luggage, for an early departure before the train service thins out, or where the passenger needs to work or take calls door to door, the car wins on both time and cost once you count the legs at each end.

What happens if the flight into Gatwick is delayed?

+

The collection re-times itself. We track the inbound aircraft, so a delay is absorbed before anyone lands — and the waiting allowance starts at wheels down, not at the scheduled arrival.

Do you cover journeys from Gatwick to places other than London?

+

Yes. Gatwick to Brighton, the Surrey and Sussex corporate belt, Guildford and the M23/M25 corridor are common runs for us, as are Gatwick-to-Heathrow connections when an itinerary splits across airports.

How is a Gatwick transfer priced?

+

One firm price agreed at booking, with tolls, the congestion charge where it applies and the airport drop-off charge inside it. The invoice shows the figure that was approved.
